A fundamental change in our driving habits is now required.

The Automobile Industry is going to be in the same position as the Airline Industry in the next few months. Unless we get away from gas combustion vehicles, including Hybrids, the automobile industry (as we know it) will die.We need to make drastic moves. America needs to move to ELECTRIC. The vehicles are not as fast, not always as fun to drive, but the move will save Americans money (Billions) and help bring change to our automotive companies. Let's "Be Green"!!!!!!!!!!!! BG Automotive Group Ltd. has a car that will travel 80-100 miles per charge for $15,995. Finally a car that most Americans can afford. Did you know that 80% of all drivers, drive less than 50 miles per day? This new car will cost an equivalent of $0.20-0.25 cents/gallon (depending on electricity rates in your area). Why send $700 Billion per year to OPEC (now buying up U.S. companies) when we can use this money for our schools, health care, social security for all Americans, etc, etc, etc. We can make the difference if WE change.

Keeping things on an even playing field regarding the infusion of hybrid vehicles into the American market I thought I might share my experience purchasing one. 6/14/08 I purchased a '08 Saturn Vue Greenline Partial Hybrid. My company car is a '07 Prius HSD full Hybrid. I have spent many years researching and using this technology and with the rising cost of fuel in the US and my personal need to replace my aging 2001 Pontiac Grand AM 4 cyl with 145K miles it was time. The Toyota Prius was a great choice but the cost and availability were hurdles. Ultimately the ride comfort and cargo capcity were the deciding factors for my choosing the Saturn Vue. After only 600 miles this is a decision I am regreting. I am writing to the New York New Jersey Attorny Generals about this matter for possible "Lemon Law" enforcement.

Do not invest in this company's product. Saturn Engineers and Technicians are out of touch with the American people and the customers they presumably design these cars for. There is a critical unexplained programing glitch in the software controling the many modules that communicate their information to the main computer control unit. When the modules don't communicate to the main computer the system starts to disable certain functions including safety functions and sends error codes and lights flashing on the dashboard. Dealership mechanics go through their service tree and ruling out physical causes resolves the issue by reprogramming each module. Then they must reestablish the hand shake between the module and computer.

As a consumer my question is why is this happening and can it happen again? No one has called me to explain those things to me. A vehicle is a major investment and it behooves Saturn engineers to step up to the plate, come out of their ivory tower and explain to customers what is going on. It is no wonder American car manufacturers can't compete. They want to make junk and expect Americans to buy it while they peddle other wares in countires like China. I don't have sympathy when manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Hyundai beat the pants off of the Big Three.

These are nice and neat tips, but one problem is that most of the gas is used on the highway, since mpg is based on "miles"...that's where you clock the most number of miles and hit by gas consumption. We found a small product for this problem: The solution is Aerodynamics. We did put it on our cars last week; somebody here recommended it here. It looks great and I am sure that it is saving us some money. Here it is: http://www.HighwayGlider.com Not only it is dirt cheap; it just makes sense.

Hey! Thanks for the great info. I was browsing through a bunch of green websites and blogs and I came across yours and found it very interesting. There are a bunch of others I like too, like the daily green, ecorazzi and earthlab.com. I especially like EarthLab.com’s carbon calculator (http://www.earthlab.com/signupprofile/). I find it really easy to use (it doesn’t make me feel guilty after I take it). Are there any others you would recommend? Can you drop me a link to your favorites (let me know if they are the same as mine).

This is pretty interesting stuff, but despite the relatively diy nature of biodiesel, can it reallly compete with hybrid technology?

This is great news! I'm glad to see Toyota leading the way in the hybrid space. The cheaper these get, the more I expect to see on the road.

Watched "Who Killed the Electric Car" recently (great documentary), then i heard that GM and Tesla are making another run at the electric car (yay for progress!) hopefully development of this technology can continue forward uninterrupted by the powers that depend on oil consumption.

I bought a brand new Lexus RX 400 last year from Lexus Reading, England. I thought the the hybrid technology was great and also better for the environment, whilst still having high performance, looks and great drive. How ever, this car did not work, it kept breaking down because the engine battery was not being charged, the hybrid battery took priority and my local journeys were never long enough to top up the engine battery. I took it back to Lexus to get it checked out, where upon they told me that my driving pattern didn't work with this car and to go to Argos and buy a battery charger. I could't believe it, the latest high performace hybrid doesn't work because my journey's were too short, Its a shame the salesman did't mention it when he sold it to me, guess what I wouldn't have gone near it. I spoke with customer services to see if this problem could be solved, after looking into it they replied that they were very sorry but unfortunately in my case the battery's performance has been affected by the low milage.I asked them to take it back, I eventually sold it back to them a market value and lost alot of money, my plan had been to keep the car for about 5 years to get more value out of it, not one year. So be warned this technology has a seriously fundamental flaw and does not do the job it was designed to do. Sally Fell

If the economics don't work, recycling efforts won't either.
As our little contribution to make this economics of recycling more appealing, http://LivePaths.com blogs about people and companies that make money selling recycled or reused items, provide green services or help us reduce our dependency on non renewable resources.
