Honda Hybrids

With just weeks to go by, a nail biting countdown has begun over the new Superbowl commercials! The big enterprises are geared up once again to spellbind the world with their power-packed ad-campaigns. For the businesses, Superbowl ads provide one of the best platforms for showcasing their product excellence while for consumers Superbowl ads mean some exciting works of the brainstorming of some of the best creative brains of the nation! No wonder then, the Biggies like Toyota or Honda will attempt to cash on the huge business potential of this event that fetches an enormous T.V viewership.

The Honda was reported to buy a total of one minute of airtime. It will make it poorer by almost $5.2 million. But of course it is the company that makes business…not us and so we just can make wild speculations about how many more millions will be added to their annual profits.

The two 15-second ads from the “Gil, The Crab” campaign are believed to be pitted against the arc-rival Toyota. The ads are designed to tout Honda as the most fuel-efficient hybrid car in the USA. The ad is going to glorify the fact that Honda’s CAFE average rating is higher than rival Toyota. Honda will run two ads for the Element SUV, and their aim is to end the monopoly of Toyota Prius as the most eco-friendly and fuel efficient hybrid cars currently available in the USA.

Honda has the credit of selling top 10 best hybrids of 2006, up its sleeve and so they rightly deserve all attentions during the Big Event of Superbowl. As for us, watching the ad-fighting among the rival brands is as exciting as the game itself! The thirty seconds Honda ads are sure to bring the heady concoction of fun and creativity for the viewers while striking the right chord for the targeted consumers.

Cars have always been the hottest in the boy’s toys list. Whizzing past in a fast-moving car might have been the ultimate fashion statement for the men of past century. But today if you want to be regarded as stylist, you have to be politically correct even with your car and one aspect of political correctness is environment-consciousness. So today when we are fast moving towards a post-petroleum era, you can not afford to ride a fuel-sucking conventional SUV and claim yourself to be trendy. A cool dud like you should go green in a true blue way….you must drive a hybrid car!

If hybrid car has not been in your agenda so far, first of all you must get yourself acquainted with the top picks of the pack; much have changed since 1997, when the Toyota Prius hybrid first hit the roads of Japan. The latest hybrid models took the design and innovations to an unbelievable degree of excellence where concept and reality merge into one!

Take the example of General Motors’ latest concept vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt. Combined with Volt’s E-Flex flexible propulsion system, this new generation hybrid car is all set to offer the world the most efficient energy solutions.

Toyota has really moved beyond its Prius model that is already an icon in the green-car segment. The latest offerings from Toyota are the Camry and the Highlander respectively. The new Toyota Camry hybrid is a midsize car with a 4-cylinder engine and armed with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

For the lovers of more compact cars, there is this Lexus GS 450h which comes with a 6-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Then of course the Honda —-once a king in hybrid segment and still is. In place of Honda Insight, you now get these two highly sophisticated hybrid models…the Accord Hybrid and the Civic Hybrid. The bonus points include the futuristic designs and other hi-tech amenities.

All the leading automakers are scurrying about to gab the market of more environment friendly cars. The consumer thrust also is definitely towards greener cars.

The future of the world seems to ride on these new generation hybrid cars; what about you?

Automotive.com writes that it “may be the best of the midsize sedans. The Accord simply does everything well. It may not be best in class in every single area, but we can’t think of anything it does poorly. And the coupe packs the Accord’s attributes into a sporty two-door.”  ReviewCars.com also liked it, overall, and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 rating.

The MSRP is $18,225 - $29,300 and MPG is 21-29/30-37 (City/HWY).

honda-accord-hybrid-sedan1.jpgThe 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid isn’t your typical hybrid, in that it is the first to feature a V6 engine.  So can you have power and efficiency?  Here’s what reviewers had to say:

Aaron Gold at About.com has reviewed the 2007 Honda Accord and has this to say:

The idea behind IMA is that it takes lots of power to get a car moving, but not much to keep it moving. With a battery-powered electric motor to help out during acceleration, a small fuel-efficient gas engine is all that’s needed — an idea that worked well in the first-generation Insight and Civic hybrids.

Problem is that the Accord’s V6 doesn’t need any help. It can handle passing and merging on its own. Unless you’re drag-racing, the electric motor never really adds any useful assistance. Since the Accord Hybrid can’t run on pure battery power like the Toyota hybrids can, the hybrid system is, for all practical purposes, just along for the ride. In town my mileage never got above the low 20s — no better than a conventional V6-powered Accord.

However, AllAutoReviews has a different viewpoint of the new V6 hybrid, saying “Unlike most Hybrid models, the Honda Accord Hybrid sedan focuses on both performance as well as fuel efficiency. Whether you are looking for a sedan that comes with power, performance, comfort, luxury and fuel efficiency, the 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid sedan can be a nice choice to go for. ”

This hybrid gets an EPA mileage of 28 city and 35 highway and has an MSRP price of $31090-$33090
